Google Instant – New Enhancement to Google Search
Google launched its latest innovation: Google Instant. Google Instant is actually an enhancement to their search technology that shows the search results as you type your search query. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.
The whole concept runs based on a predictive model. As users type a search query, Google Instant automatically shows results for the most popular search that begins with those letters. Google’s predictive algorithm tries to predict what the rest of the query might be based on popular queries typed by other searchers in the past. The predicted text is shown in light grey in the search box, and search results and ads are automatically shown for that predicted query.
The inspiration behind Google Instant was that Google noticed the Gap between the speed at which people type and that of their reading.
The outcome is that you get to the most relevant content much faster than before because you don’t have to finish typing your full search term and press “search” and only then see the search results.
The benefit that Google Instant offers is that seeing results as you type, you can qualify your search queries as you get instant feedback. You can now adapt your search on the fly until the results match exactly what you want. In time, we may wonder how search ever worked in any other way.
Google anticipates that as a result they would see more user engagement with their search services and AdWords ads.
Google Instant is starting to roll-out to users on Google domains in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia on select browsers (it may not be working on all browsers for now). If you are on any domain other than Google.com you can only access Google Instant if you are signed in to a Google Account.
