Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO (a branch of Search Engine Marketing), is the process of optimizing your website undertaken by SEO Experts so that it gets a high ranking for your targeted key phrases. In other words, Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “organic” or “natural” search engine results for your targeted keywords. Usually, the higher up a site is presented in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) or the better its “rank”, the more Internet searchers will visit that site.
With the introduction of blended search (e.g., Google Universal), SEO should also target different kinds of searches verticals including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines.
As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s traffic and relevance, Search Engine Optimization considers how search engine algorithms work and what searchers are looking for. SEO practice involves a web site’s coding, design hierarchy, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing technical and coding problems that could prevent search engines spidering and indexing a site completely.
“SEO” can also stand for “search engine optimizer”. SEOs are consultants who carry out optimization of websites. Search engine optimization can be either done in house or outsourced to the firms that offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing mix.
